What happens during the visit?

Dermal filler injections are non-surgical and typically completed during an office visit. Your initial treatment will begin with a consultation, during which you will meet with your doctor to discuss your concerns and goals.

What are the dangers of dermal fillers?

Most dermal fillers are safe and effective in the right hands when used judiciously. Adverse effects may occur. Each of these substances has its unique density, longevity, and texture, which, injected into a specific area of the face, achieves the desired result.
We recommend you avoid unsafe black-market products and unqualified providers.

One of the main benefits of HA fillers, aside from their natural appearance when injected, is that a unique solution can dissolve them in case of an adverse event or if the person dislikes the appearance. Also, most HA fillers are premixed with lidocaine, a numbing agent, to maximize comfort during treatment.

Adverse effects include:

  • Bruising and swelling after the procedure
  • Allergic reactions: rash/itching
  • Infections
  • Death of skin cells at the injection site (necrosis and ulceration)
  • Blood clot causing blindness (if injected close to the eye)
  • Bleeding from the injection site
  • Skin damage and scarring
  • Asymmetry of face
  • Lumps under skin
  • Under and over correction of wrinkles

Dermal filler injections are non-surgical and typically completed during an office visit. Your initial treatment will begin with a consultation, during which you will meet with your doctor to discuss your concerns and goals.

Pre-treatment consultation

During your consultation, your doctor will evaluate your area of concern and review your medical history. While the risks associated with dermal fillers are minimal, you need to fully disclose your medical history before treatment, as specific allergies, skin and neurological conditions, or medications can jeopardize your safety or results. For instance, drugs including NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen) or blood thinners increase the likelihood of bruising.

Your injectable filler treatment

Before the actual treatment, the area is cleaned and numbed with a topical anesthetic. Dr. Bassi will then inject a precise amount of filler strategically beneath the skin. Many fillers contain lidocaine, a mild anesthetic intended to help minimize discomfort during and after your treatment.

The results will be noticeable immediately. Some patients may experience mild bruising and swelling, which are temporary and subside in a few days. You will be able to go back to your normal activities right after treatment, but your doctor may ask you to take the day off from exercise or other strenuous activities.
